Puberty Blues

Can you remember being 16? I thought I knew everything, I thought I was so wise and mature - I laugh at the memory of my 16 year old self now. Growing up in the heart of the Western Suburbs of Sydney, innocence is lost young in a place like that. To think that our biggest issues consisted of what to wear to make our boobs look big and what flavour UDL's we were going to drink on the weekend. The gap between then and now seems almost unbelievable, but it still feels like yesterday...

Back in January my 16 year old cousin came to stay with me for a few days. I loved hearing her ramble non-stop about something completely irrelevant that was just SO SUPER EXCITING/IMPORTANT to her. She played me top 40 songs that were absolutely terrible that i'd never heard before. She said words that I didn't know existed. She told me about her friends that "did stuff" with boys. She made me feel every single bit my age.

inspired by...

So I feel like things have been a little slow on the blog lately with a lack of content. A lot of the time my work is tied up in submissions, campaigns/look books are waiting for specific release dates or I have just been shooting a bunch commercial stuff that I don't think is of much interest to my readers. So i've decided to start a new segment called 'inspired by...' - just a couple of images of something or someone that caught my eye. This way i'll be putting up more content, while encouraging myself to carry my camera more often and taking the time to notice the small things. Enjoy.

Happy hump day kittens! xxx

Little L

Lately I've been getting a little down about my work. Uncertainty, hyper-sensitivity to criticism and generally feeling uninspired. It's been an absolute massive year for me, becoming a full-time professional photographer was a major leap but fuck I am glad I did it. I love my life, my job - the juice was most definitely worth the squeeze. But as it nears the end of 2013 I realise how tired I am. This rollercoaster year has drained me and I can feel it physically and emotionally and most importantly I can see it in my work. However it's times like these that I need to remember a little lesson I live by - when something negative happens in your life, you just counteract that shit with something positive. So while i'm feeling a little heavy I want to show you some work that I am extremely proud of.

I took these not all that long ago of new model Lisa. We wanted to go for a 90's supermodel look to show off Lisa'a absolutely killer bod. I LOVE this shoot. It's one of my favourite stories to date. It's a simple combination of a beautiful model with some beautiful light and it's shoots like these that make you realise you are in the exact right place, in the exact right time, just lost in photography.

The lovely folk at Wattle Magazine were kind enough to publish this story - you can check out more images here

Miami Marketta

Last Friday I made my way down to the Miami Marketta for the first time and once I got there I wondered 'why the hell haven't I been here before?'. The marketta is held at Rabbit + Cocoon, the artistic hub for Gold Coast creatives. By day, it's an industrial area filled with independent fashion and homeware stores as well as travelling artists. It's also home to Rabbit Radio station.

The marketta was bustling with locals of all ages and cultures who had braved the wind and the rain to listen to live music, eat amazing gourmet fast food and cruise the stalls looking for that one off piece that blew their mind. I've got to say, the Gold Coast has been absolutely crying out for something like this and it's about time someone took note from Melbourne and Sydney to bring us a night market full of so much creativity and energy.

I took the old snapper along, here are a few pretty things that caught my eye...
